INDOfest Schools Program 2016

INDOfest-Adelaide is an Indonesian festival comprising a series of events hosted by the Australian-Indonesian Association of South Australia Inc. (AIA-SA) in collaboration with the Indonesian community in South Australia, including the Indonesian Students Association (PPIA-SA)

The INDOfest Schools Project (ISP), has been designed to provide students and teachers with an opportunity to celebrate Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture in schools and to promote inter-cultural understanding between Australia and Indonesia.

INDOfest 2016 will build upon the success of the INDOfest Schools Programs of 2014 and 2015 by offering:

  • Bahasa Indonesia Short Film Competition
  • INDOfest in Schools Week
  • INDOfest Carnival Day

Bahasa Indonesia Short Film Competition

The competition will be open to all primary, middle and senior schools across South Australia currently offering Indonesian language programs.

Schools are invited to create films under the theme of: berbeda tapi sama (different but the same).

Participating schools will be offered the opportunity to engage with Indonesian university students for an intensive language tutoring session. This is aimed to assist students and teachers to refine the language and pronunciation in their entries.

All films entered will be judged by an appointed panel comprising a native Indonesian speaker, an expert filmmaker, a member of the education community and a member of AIA-SA. Prizes  will be offered to the winning entries in two categories: Primary and Secondary.

All participants will have their films acknowledged and showcased at the INDOfest Carnival Day, as well as receiving a certificate of participation.

INDOfest in Schools Week

This is an opportunity for schools to showcase and raise the profile of their Indonesian language and culture program in their school community. Just like 'Book Week' or 'Science Week', schools may choose to promote Bahasa Indonesia in their schools using a number of activities across the week, such as a dress up day or sharing of Indonesian food etc. However, it is up to individual schools regarding how big they would like their INDOfest in Schools Week to be.

The INDOfest Schools Project is offering schools the opportunity to host an Indonesian cultural group during the INDOfest in Schools Week. Categories for workshops will depend on which cultural groups are available, but may include:

  • writing (poetry, songs etc.)
  • arts and crafts (posters, paintings, drawings etc.)
  • performing arts (music, Gamelan, rebana, drumming, dance, puppetry etc.)
  • hobbies and sports
  • cooking demonstrations
  • social and cultural discussions

INDOfest Carnival Day

INDOfest Carnival Day will be held on Sunday September 25 in the North Terrace Cultural Precinct. This free family event will present a variety of traditional and modern music, dance and culture, as well as culinary delights from the enchantingly different regions of Indonesia.
